Three winters have now passed with our notable Maple on the ground. This winter was different from the norm as generally warmer temperatures and significantly less snow were experienced. Additionally, spring came early with the maple syrup season beginning before the end of February.
Decay is a normal process. It provides habitat and nourishment for all types of animals, birds, insects, etc as well as enriching surrounding soil. The physical structure deteriorates and shrinks away. Time is marching forward in its return to the earth.
